ED: Violence against journalists can never be tolerated

It is imperative that there is a thorough investigation on the attacks made on the members of the press A free press -- one that is allowed to do its job without needless obstacles, risks, and the threat of violence -- is a cornerstone for any functional democracy. It is one of the benchmarks for measuring a country’s success. Sadly, when it comes to Bangladesh, we remain very far from ensuring that members of the press can feel safe, as they attempt to do their jobs, and bring the truth to the people. To that end, it is infuriating and extremely worrying to learn that, in the recent protests and blockades that occurred in the nation, at least 17 journalists were injured covering the events.
