Asian Paper Mill ordered to shut for polluting Halda

The environment department today ordered Asian Paper Mill to shut down for polluting a water body that drains into the Halda river in Chattogram. The Department of Environment (Chattogram Division) passed the order after a hearing on the matter, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting Muktadir Hasan, assistant director of DoE. The paper mill was declared shut as it failed to meet four conditions including construction of an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at their factory.
