ED: Time to get serious

There is no scope for complacency
With over 5,000 daily cases -- the highest registered in Bangladesh -- along with almost 50 deaths occurring this week, we simply can no longer deny that this second wave of Covid-19 is well and truly upon us, and simply sitting about will not bring about any improvements to the fast deteriorating predicament.

To that end, the government had to take action, and the fact that once again, we are seeing tougher restrictions in movement is unfortunate, because no one wanted to see it come to this again. However, in the light of the day-by-day increase in cases and deaths, it was the only option, and the right decision to take by the government.

While now we have these restrictions and directives in place, it goes without saying that following through with them is crucial, and all Bangladeshis must do their part to ensure that none of these rules are being flouted in any way.
