43% schools lacked basic handwashing facilities before pandemic: Unicef, WHO

Some 43 percent of schools around the world lacked access to basic handwashing with soap and water -- a key condition for schools to operate safely amid the Covid-19 pandemic -- in 2019. This was the latest data from the WHO/Unicef Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP), revealed on Thursday, at a time when schools worldwide are struggling with reopening.
