Column by Mahfuz Anam: Why is personal freedom such a plaything of the law enforcers?

Isn't personal freedom one of the most cherished and universally celebrated principles of our civilisation? Isn't guaranteeing this freedom the most sacred task of a modern state? Hasn't individual freedom been recognised as one of the fundamental rights of every person, and as such enshrined in the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights? Hasn't that right been pledged to
